A delicious chocolate heart shape cake is the perfect way to show your loved ones how much you care. This cake is made with a rich chocolate cake base and is then covered in a decadent chocolate ganache.

The cake is then decorated with fresh strawberries and is finished off with a chocolate heart shape topper. This cake is sure to please any chocolate lover and is the perfect way to show your love.

Chocolate Heart Shape Cake


  • Sugar 2 cup
  • Butter 220g
  • Salt 1 tsp
  • Flour 2 cup
  • Vanilla extract 1 tsp
  • Water 1 cup
  • Eggs 2 (large)
  • Baking soda 1 tsp
  • Cocoa powder 6 tbsp
  • Buttermilk cup


  • Powdered sugar 3 cup
  • Butter 110g
  • Vanilla extract 1 tsp
  • Whole milk 5 tbsp
  • Chocolate chips cup (half sweet)
  • Salt tsp
  • Butter 57g (soft)



  1. Preheat the oven to 162°C (325°F). Spray an 8-inch round pan and an 8-inch square pan with cooking spray. Wipe with a paper towel, to ensure the entire pan is coated with spray. Spray pans again lightly and lines the bottom of each pan with parchment paper.
  2. Mix cocoa, butter, and water in a large mixing bowl and cook on high power for 3min, or until butter is mostly melted also beat well until smooth and lump-free
  3. Beat in vanilla and sugar, then salt and flour, stirring until nice and smooth after each addition
  4. Add eggs and beat until completely combined
  5. Sprinkle baking soda over the top of the batter, then add buttermilk and stir well
  6. Divide batter between prepared pans, trying to make the depth of the batter the same in each pan, and tap the bowl several times to bring air bubbles to the surface
  7. Bake for almost40min or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean. Don’t over bake
  8. Allow Chocolate Heart Shape Cake to cool in the pan, then put them out on a shelf or rack. Invert cakes so the top surface faces up
  9. To make the heart shape, place the square cake on the diagonal serving plate. Cut the circle cake in half and place each half touching the upper edge of the square cake


  1. Combine butter and the chocolate chips in a large bowl and cook on high power in the microwave for 1min
  2. Remove from microwave and beat for 1min or until smooth and all chocolate chips have melted
  3. Add milk and vanilla and beat until smooth, add powdered sugar and salt. Whisk in the center of the bowl, bringing in more and more of the powdered sugar until the mix is smooth and all sugar is combined


If icing is super thick and hard to beat add a little more milk, 1 tsp at a time until smooth

  1. Finally, beat in the soft butter for about 30s until the icing is nice and fluffy
  2. Frost heart-shaped cake with prepared icing, start at the top, working icing over the edges to cover. Allow Chocolate Heart Shape Cake to sit for 30min before serving to allow icing to set.
