Easy instructions for how to make a heart-shaped cake! Perfect for Valentine’s Day. This is a simple and fun way to make a sweet and creamy heart-shaped cake. Easy Valentine’s Day dessert! I am not a professional cake decorator, but I do know that it is a good idea to do a crumb coat of frosting on a cake. This method helps keep the cake crumbs confined.


▪ All-purpose flour 212cup

▪ Cooking spray

▪ Powdered sugar 1 cup

▪ Salt 1 tsp

▪ Butter 1 cup (soft)

▪ Baking soda 1 tsp

▪ Eggs 2 (large)

▪ Pure vanilla extract 1tsp

▪ Cocoa powder 14cup

▪ Buttermilk 1 cup

▪ Food color red 2 tbsp

▪ White vinegar 2 tsp (distilled)


▪ Powdered sugar 414

▪ Butter 4 tbsp (soft)

▪ Cream cheese (soft) 1 cup

▪ Salt 1 pinch

▪ Pure vanilla extract 1tsp

▪ Sprinkles (optional)


  1. Preheat oven to 176°C (350°F). Take one 8-in round pan and one 8-in square pan lined with parchment paper and grease them with cooking spray
  2. Take a large bowl and using a hand mixer beat sugar and butter until fluffy and light 3. Also add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then add vanilla extract 4. In another large bowl, beat together baking soda, cocoa powder, salt, and flour. 5. Add half of the dry ingredients (step 4) to wet ingredients (step 3), beating until just combined. 6. Now add buttermilk, vinegar, and red food coloring and beat to combine and then add remaining  dry items and repeat
  3. Divide batter (prepared in step 6) in 2 pans(step 1) and bake for about 30min and until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean. Let cool 15min, then put upside down on a plate or shelf to cool completely
  4. Frosting: Take a large bowl with a hand mixer and beat butter and cream cheese until smooth. Add powdered sugar and beat until fluffy and light. Add vanilla and salt and mix until combined 9. Cut the round cake from the center (creating 2 semi-circles), then place cut sides on 2 adjacent sides of the square cake
  5. Frost completely with cream cheese frosting. Spread the sprinkles if using and serve.
