Chocolate cakes are the most liked item but in the list of chocolate cake, more pleasurable a heart-shaped chocolate cake that is filled with chocolate whipped cream and then covered with a layer of chocolate ganache. This would be the perfect Valentine’s Day dessert.

ITEMS

  • Sugar 2 cup
  • Butter 220g
  • Salt 1 tsp
  • Flour 2 cup
  • Vanilla extract 1 tsp
  • Water 1 cup
  • Eggs 2 (large)
  • Baking soda 1 tsp
  • Cocoa powder 6 tbsp
  • Buttermilk cup

Frosting

  • Powdered sugar 3 cup
  • Butter 110g
  • Vanilla extract 1 tsp
  • Whole milk 5 tbsp
  • Chocolate chips cup (half sweet)
  • Salt tsp
  • Butter 57g (soft)

PROCEDURE

  1. Preheat oven to 162°C (325°F). Spray an 8-inch round pan and an 8-inch square pan with cooking spray. Wipe with a paper towel, to ensure the entire pan is coated with spray. Spray pans again lightly and lines the bottom of each pan with parchment paper.
  2. Mix cocoa, butter, and water in a large mixing bowl and cook on high power for 3min, or until butter is mostly melted also beat well until smooth and lump-free
  3. Beat in vanilla and sugar, then salt and flour, stirring until nice and smooth after each addition
  4. Add eggs and beat until completely combined
  5. Sprinkle baking soda over the top of the batter, then add buttermilk and stir well
  6. Divide batter between prepared pans, trying to make the depth of the batter the same in each pan, tap the bowl several times to bring air bubbles to the surface
  7. Bake for almost40min or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean. Don’t over bake
  8. Allow cakes to cool in the pan, then put them out on a shelf or rack. Invert cakes so the top surface faces up
  9. To make the heart shape, place the square cake on the diagonal on a large serving plate. Cut circle cake in half and place each half touching an upper edge of the square cake

Icing

  1. Combine butter and the chocolate chips in a large bowl and cook on high power on the microwave for 1min
  2. Remove from microwave and beat for 1min or until smooth and all chocolate chips have melted
  3. Add milk and vanilla and beat until smooth, add powdered sugar and salt. Whisk in the center of the bowl, bringing in more and more of the powdered sugar until the mix is smooth and all sugar is combined

Note: If icing is super thick and hard to beat add a little more milk, 1 tsp at a time until smooth

  1. Finally, beat in the soft butter for about 30s until icing is nice and fluffy
  2. Frost heart-shaped cake with prepared icing, start at the top, working icing over the edges to cover. Allow cake to sit for 30min before serving to allow icing to set
